 Harpers Ferry, West Virginia

Harpers Ferry Real Estate

Nestled where the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers converge in Jefferson County, historic Harpers Ferry is extremely small in population but hugely impressive in the quality of life it provides homebuyers.

Harpers Ferry's history helps to define what it is today. Surveyed by George Washington in 1750, and then becoming an important area for transportation with the addition of the railroad to river use, Harper Ferry's location subsequently spurred the development of many mills and factories and aided to the economic development of West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle. Today, Harpers Ferry is probably best known for abolitionist John Brown's raid on the federal armory in 1859, considered a major influence on the beginning of the Civil War.

Harpers Ferry makes the most of its rich history as the entire town is part of the Harpers Ferry Historic District and as the location of the Harpers Ferry National Historic Park. A variety of museums have been established in Harpers Ferry, including the John Brown Wax Museum, small museums located throughout the town, and even an excellent walking tour is provided by the National Park Service that leads through the town's picturesque streets. History is truly a daily part of life in Harpers Ferry and provides a solid economic foundation in its tourism industry.

Besides historical attractions, Harpers Ferry is a remarkably beautiful place to spend some time outdoors. With the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers and the Appalachian Mountains as playgrounds, residents enjoy kayaking, white water rafting, canoeing, rock climbing, biking and fishing. Harpers Ferry is also the home to the headquarters of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and one of the few towns that the 2,100 miles of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail passes through. With four seasons of distinctive weather, there is always a way to explore the natural landscape of Harpers Ferry when you buy a home here.

Although Harpers Ferry has just over 300 residents, the town is starting to attract the attention of homebuyers who appreciate the difference in cost of living in comparison to other cities in the region. Harpers Ferry homebuyers can commute to by car to Frederick, Maryland in 25 minutes; Leesburg, Virginia in 35 minutes, and even Baltimore, Maryland and Washington D.C. in just over an hour. Real estate in Harpers Ferry presents homebuyers with excellent value for the price. To learn more about the homes for sale in Harpers Ferry, please contact The Butch Cazin Team today!
